What tools can we use to better train our mind towards balance, stability and inner peace? How does meditation help us to let go of stress and worry so that we can live a life with wisdom and a sense of joy and meaning?
Understanding some basic preliminary practices along with tools on how to settle and focus the mind, we can start to make space for better decision-making and build a reliable source of refuge, clarity and inner peace in our own mind regardless of external circumstances.
“Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world.” – Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
This workshop will provide practical instruction on preliminary meditation practices and the stages of concentration. The session will also include guided meditations on the breath and the clarity of the mind.
Feel free to stay afterwards for a free family friendly open house starting at 1pm. More information below.

Please join us for a family friendly open house at KMC San Francisco.
Every wondered what the meaning of a Buddhist shrine is, how to do water the seven water bowl offerings, or how to build a mandala? Come on by and learn all these things and more in a relaxed setting. Snacks and refreshments included during the break. Feel free to arrive at any time between 1:00 and 3:00pm. Everyone welcome. Free. No pre-registration necessary.
1:00-1:30pm – Introduction and shrine tour: Learn about all the Buddhas in our shrine. Why do we have a shrine and what does it all mean? This will be concluded by a short meditation.
1:45-2:15pm – Brief instruction on how to do the 7 water bowls offerings: Learn the significance and symbolism of the water offerings and how to do them.
2:30-3:00pm – Ever heard of a mandala? In Buddhism, this is a pure universe of an enlightened being. In this practice we build and offer a pure world with a good intention. We do this using a mandala kit, which has 3 metal rings and a treasure top. The mandala is built upwards with rice (or grains) and some small jewels. Very enjoyable. Children particularly like this practice.
The open house will be concluded with a short meditation setting a good intention and dedicating for the benefit of all living beings.
